SITE HOST DASHBOARD

EV charging station management software

Site Host Dashboard is a comprehensive solution that empowers property managers to track, monitor, and manage their EV chargers efficiently. When ChargeLab's legacy dashboard proved difficult to incrementally improve, we undertook a complete redesign to create a more powerful and user-friendly platform. The result became ChargeLab's flagship product, driving consistent revenue through enterprise license agreements.

Challenges

The old legacy dashboard was basically a view-only big data dump that failed to provide a good user experience and functional values to the users.

1
Lack of self-service

Site host can’t sign up, onboard, or manage settings. Nearly everything requires contacting ChargeLab Support and manual editing by Eng team which is very inefficient.

2
Limited flexibility

There are limitations for settings on price, access, and charger management rules. Site hosts have been requesting new capabilities that can save their time.

3
Outdated visuals

The dashboard's dated appearance didn't align with ChargeLab's brand identity, impacting sales team confidence during product demonstrations and overall user experience.

Opportunity

How might we improve existing features,
enable new self-service functionality,
and ship a completely new dashboard?

sidebar

Better discoverability

Fixed sidebar helps understand the overall site map of the dashboard, and makes it easy for users to navigate around.

company selector

Easy to switch company

Users can manage multiple companies with a single account and easily switch with a company selector.

Overview tab

Provide high-level info that matters the most
Charger status

Quick overview

Charger status is intentionally placed on top of the home screen as it visually gives users quick insight about charger health.

statistics

Track the most important metrics

We got rid of unnecessary metrics and simplified to 3 metrics that site hosts are interested in the most. Bar chart makes it easy to see the trend of the data over time.

Charger tab

Access all chargers in one central spot
charger overview

Alert users with issues

Any problematic chargers are automatically located on top. This helps users take action quickly to fix the chargers and eventually provide more reliable charging experiences to their drivers.

troubleshooting guide

Suggest how to fix the issue

We not only alert any issue but also provide troubleshooting guideline because some minor issues can be resolved quickly by site hosts themselves.

auto-start

Assign auto-start drivers

Now users can quickly enable/disable auto-start and assign a new driver on their own without having to contact ChargeLab.

Pricing & Access tab

Empower users with more flexible settings
Group setting

Manage and edit settings more quickly

Previously when editing pricing or access, users had to manually change each charger one by one. We introduced a new group setting that allows bulk edit that can save tons of time.

discount & access

Self-service granting discount & access

Users can grant discount and access to certain drivers without having to contact ChargeLab support. This saves so much time for both users and ChargeLab.

Design system

outcome

After being carefully tested, the new dashboard was launched in May 2022. We’ve got tons of positive feedback from the existing clients saying the new UI is so much better, and the sales team started closing bigger deals by demoing the new dashboard.
